Both of usopp's parents were gay they were in a lavender marriage for their own protection. They lived like this until they were unhappy and wanted to be free. Banchina allowed yasopp to leave and live his life openly. He still had a lot of unresolved trauma shit ton of disappointed daddy issues that caused him to struggle with fatherhood.( I honestly believe that he and sanji talked to each other, like actually talked. they would have a lot in common) and a lot internalized homophobia so he's still somewhat in the closet. His crew mates know, he didn't tell them he's never said it out loud like ever but they know.

Banchina tho. She was never a pirate but she was the one set truly free. She cut her hair and started wearing more masc clothing she made a lot of friends. Started a book club with just lesbians, she had a short term partner she was a pirate who would doc in syrup village. They were a thing for a while Ussop was too young to remember her tho. Banchina was never ashamed of her identity even when she was married. She lived her life open and happy until she died.

Usopp didn't really think about it at the time. (Late at night on the sunny He thought about it and it made sense "oh shit my mom a lesbian...") He just liked seeing her happy and he also liked all the nice ladies who would play and give him candy when they were there. Even when she died they stayed around and helped him, cooked for him, cleaned for him and taught him basic needs until he was old enough to do it on his own. At the time usopp was young and still played pirates so they were on his "crew" they played along seeing this was helping him cope a little and it was really cute.
